Coming soon to the PW Library....starting with Gr. 3
Exploration and creation, in the form of hands-on learning, are important for students of all ages. Makerspaces allow students to make mistakes and learn from them. Maker activities provide students with an opportunity to use valuable critical thinking skills to solve a problem. In the maker spirit, the PW Library has purchased some kits that will allow students to make or build something.
To start with, the Maker Kits will be available for checkout by Grade 3 students. These kits will be very popular items and students will be excited to use them at home. Therefore, I am asking students to discuss the responsibility of using these kits with their parent/guardian and return the attached form to the PW Library, indicating that they are allowed to check out this new resource. Additionally, I will introduce and review the Maker Kits with students, as well as discuss that when a student checks out a Maker Kit, he or she is responsible for returning all parts. If parts or missing or broken, students will be charged, just as they are for a lost or damaged library book.
In Goldie Blox and the Spinning Machine, Goldie builds a spinning machine to help her dog, Nacho, chase his tail. Soon all her friends want in on the action. Help Goldie build a belt drive machine to spin everybody!
In GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank, Goldie has to find a way to get Nacho clean. The only problem is: Nacho hates water and loves being a dirty dog. After many tries to get Nacho clean, Goldie finally comes up with the perfect contraption. As kids read along, they help Goldie build a dunk tank (and learn about hinges and levers) to get Nacho clean so everyone can go to the carnival on time.
| In Goldie Blox and the Parade Float, Goldie's friends Ruby and Katinka compete in a princess pageant with the hopes of riding in the town parade. When Katinka loses the crown, Ruby and Goldie build something great together, teaching their friends that creativity and friendship are more important than any pageant.
Q-BA-MAZE is a unique system of colorful cubes that interlock to form a marble run. The big difference? You can create marble maze sculptures in any form such as animals, robots, towers, and geometric shapes. Configurations are unlimited, allowing for unpredictable action when the steel marbles travel different routes. Follow the plans provided in each set, get inspired by our plans section below, or create your own! Developed by an architect, Q-BA-MAZE inspires creative play as you experiment with motion, stability, physics and art. Think in 3-D while you design and build with colors and cantilevers. It’s both right-brain and left-brain, part art and part science. |
IMPORTANT: Many of the Maker Kits contain small parts that are NOT suitable for young children. Please keep the kit pieces away from younger siblings for their own safety.
